3M™ PTFE Glass Cloth Tape 5151 is a 5.3 mil brown cloth glass tape impregnated with PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene). It is coated with a pressure sensitive silicone adhesive that performs at elevated temperatures with little or no cleanup. Backing provides a slick release surface on rollers, binders, formers on stitchers and other process machinery.
Provides Long Lasting, Easy Release Performance
The backing featured in 3M™ PTFE Glass Cloth Tape 5151 is resistant to most chemicals while also providing a slick surface, high-tensile strength, puncture resistance and abrasion resistance with low moisture absorption. This tape is frequently used for heat sealing machines, lining ducts, conveying chutes and troughs, ironing and pressing equipment, and packing applications. The anti-stick technology ensures an easy release of product while reducing friction from manufacturing processes. With a very low moisture absorption this tape performs well in humid work environments.
Recommended Applications
Easy release surface on packaging and heat sealing machines, ironing and pressing equipment
Mold release surface on tools used in metal composite bonding
Lining conveying chutes, troughs and ducts
Covering rollers, drums, turnbars and formers on stitches, binders and other process machinery
For Applications Requiring High Temperature and High Abrasion Resistance
3M™ PTFE Glass Cloth Tape 5151 is designed to withstand temperatures ranging from -100°F (-73ºC) to 500ºF (260ºC). The conformable backing ensures the tape can be wrapped around rollers or used in irregular or spiral patterns. The long-aging, pressure sensitive silicone adhesive is designed to deliver good holding power, and once finished the adhesive cleans quickly and easily leaving behind minimal residue.
Understanding PTFE
Polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) is a synthetic material used in a variety of industries and applications to reduce the coefficient of friction. PTFE is used as a non-stick coating for frying pans and other cookware because of its non-stick property as well as high heat resistance. Its non-conductivity makes it an excellent insulating material for electrical applications. It is very non-reactive to numerous chemicals, partly due to the strength of carbon–fluorine bonds; making it very effective in containers and pipework for reactive and corrosive substances. PTFE reduces friction, wear and energy efficiency of machinery. Because of its low friction, PTFE is used in industrial applications where sliding action of parts is required, such as with bearings, gears, slide plates, etc. In these applications, it delivers significantly better performance than nylon and acetal.
